SCT Day 2: Tin Hut to Lewis Lake

Just sun, water and fun

July 30, 2022

One of the reasons we have pushed yesterday has been the sunrise. After a good night sleep, we got up at about 5.15 am, hiked a little bit towards the weather station above Tin Hut and found a really nice spot. We’ve only waited about 15 minutes and witnessed an orange sun making its way over the mountains across the horizon.

We have had a long breakfast, rested up a bit and hit the trail shortly after 10.30 am. We’ve decided to take it easy today as we completed almost 30k in the first day and hiked for only about 8 km in total. We went mostly downhill all the way to Lewis Lake Campground, where we decided to camp that night.

Not too many camping spots honestly, there were already two other groups camping, we’ve talked a bit here and there. We’ve spent some time swimming in the lake as well, which has been very refreshing. Aleš and Niki N even went for an afternoon nap in the shade.

We played one round of Monopoly after we the dinner, and even though we had other games to play, we went to bed at around 10 pm as we were still tired from the day before.
