SCT Prep Day: Vancouver to Saltery Bay

You gotta get there first

July 28, 2022

Girls have taken a whole day off, while boys worked the morning to be as efficient as possible. We’re all agreed to leave for the trip from Burnaby at about 12.30 pm once Aleš arrives with the car. Nik arrived at our place at about 12 pm and once Aleš returned from work, we are heading straight for North Vancouver shortly before 1pm.

We do pick up Niki N quickly and going for the ferry right away as we have no time to waste. I was expecting not catching one, especially before the long weekend, but we were super lucky and got onto the first one within 25 mins without a reservation. Sometimes you don't have to plan everything (lesson learned)!

We have arrived in Gibsons after spending about 40mins on the ferry and headed straight for a refreshment thanks to the saved time. While I went for a beach walk with Niki N, the other part of the group decided it needs refuel and went for a restaurant meal.

They joined us at the beach shortly after - we've had a chance to talk to a local girl and go for a brief swim (actually, just Niki N!) and only then we’ve set our direction towards the other ferry in Earls Cove.

Just before arriving there, we’ve stopped for a quick swim at Ruby Lake. Unbelieveably warm water and nice beach. We didn’t have to pay for the ferry at all as it was included in the original rate from Vancouver, so no complaints at all.

Once we arrived to Saltery Bay, we’ve had a quick dinner at the provincial park campground and went to sleep to be ready for a big adventure tomorrow. Overall, everything went pretty smooth if you ask me.
